The following is a sampling of cases handled by Lipman & Linden:

• Helped obtain a $10 million settlement on behalf of Illinois residents and companies against a multi-national railroad in a class action resulting. The lawsuit contended that the railroad defrauded Illinois consumers by knowingly selling abandoned railroad property that it did not own. The case was an anomaly in class action litigation in that the defrauded purchasers were made whole.

• Prevailed and obtained summary judgment against a multi-billion dollar national insurance company before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in a dispute over insurance coverage on behalf of clients being sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars for severe personal injuries sustained in a construction accident.  The decision was affirmed by the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Panfil v. Nautilus Ins. Co., 799 F.3d 716 (7th Cir. 2015).  The decision has been cited and relied upon by numerous district courts.

• Obtained $1.7 million jury verdict in the Circuit Court of Cook County against an insurance producer for failing to secure adequate insurance coverage.

• Secured a settlement of more than $300,000 against a national bank for pursuing a wrongful foreclosure action against a senior citizen.

• Obtained a $125,000 jury verdict against a plastic surgeon for a violation of an individual’s right to privacy.   

• Successfully argued before the Circuit Court of Cook County that the Cook County Sheriff’s Merit Board was not unlawfully constituted.

• Prevailed after a week-long trial saving his client hundreds of thousands of dollars proving that there was no consideration for signed promissory notes showing that the plaintiff used the notes as a mechanism to hide investments from his ex-wife.
